UPDATE, 2:55 p.m., June 3 | A 16-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, girl has died due to injuries sustained during a crash on Memorial Day.

Kansas City, Kansas, police said that Chelsey Updike died Wednesday at an area hospital, where she was being treated after the crash near State Avenue and 75th Place.

Two other teens who were injured in the crash are still hospitalized in serious condition. A third teen was released from the hospital.

The two adults who suffered injuries are being treated, but are expected to recover, according to police.

EARLIER | Kansas City, Kansas, police investigated a crash early Monday that sent six people, including four teenagers, to the hospital.

The wreck, which knocked down a light pole across State Avenue at 75th Place, happened just before 3:45 a.m.

At least two vehicles were involved, including one that caught fire, according to police, and speed is believed to have been a factor.

Three men and three women were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Four victims in one vehicle were teenagers – two who were 19 and two who were 16 – and the victims in the other vehicle were a man and a woman in their late 40s or early 50s.

Five of the victims were in stable condition and one remained in critical condition, according to an update Monday afternoon.

Two extrications were required, according to KCK police.

Several blocks of State Avenue, from 75th to 78th, were closed for several hours Monday morning as police investigated the crash scene.
