Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for parts of KC area

UPDATE | The National Weather Service has extended the severe thunderstorm warning until 12:45 p.m. for Miami County, Johnson County, Kansas, Northwestern Cass County and Southern Jackson County.

At 12:09 a.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Belton, moving east at 20 mph.

ORIGINAL STORY, 12:00 p.m. |A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of the Kansas City area.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Eastern Wyandotte County, Miami County, Johnson County, Kansas, Northwestern Cass County and Southern Jackson County until 12:15 p.m.

At 11:51 a.m. a severe thunderstorm was located over Leawood, moving east at 30 miles per hour. Wind gusts could get up to 60 mph. and penny size hail could fall.

Locations impacted include Kansas City, Overland Park, Olathe, Independence, Lee`s Summit, Shawnee, Blue Springs, Lenexa, Leawood, Raytown, Grandview, Belton, Prairie Village, Raymore, Gardner, Merriam, Mission, Paola, Spring Hill and Greenwood.
