SHAWNEE, Kan. — Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday in the 5500 block of Frisbie Road in Shawnee, Kansas.
Two people suffered fatal injuries in the incident, which the Shawnee Police Department said is being investigated as a murder-suicide.
Police were dispatched shortly before 1 p.m. after the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department requested a welfare check "for a possibly endangered person" in the area of Riverfront Park in western Shawnee.
A Shawnee police spokesman said the shooting occurred in “a very rural area," located just east of the Kansas River.
Both victims were dead when police arrived and the Shawnee police Investigations Bureau is handling the case. No additional information is expected to be released Sunday, including the names of the victims.
