Shooting death is KCMO's 68th homicide in 2018

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police are investigating a shooting death Sunday afternoon in Kansas City, Missouri.​​​​​​

KCPD confirmed that officers responded to a call regarding a shooting at 3:43 p.m. and found an unidentified black male dead from a gunshot wound outside a car near 51st Street and Swope Parkway.

He was declared dead at the scene. 

On Monday, police identified the victim as Leonard Joyner III, 57. 

Detectives believe a car wreck and altercation may have preceded the shooting, but details are seeking potential witnesses from a nearby apartment complex or other residences in the area.
