SMSD narrows superintendent search to 3 candidates

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Shawnee Mission School District has narrowed its search for a new superintendent down to three candidates.

The candidates were announced Friday. On Saturday, the community will get the chance to meet the candidates and ask them questions in separate, 30-minute sessions.

Dr. Michael Fulton is currently serving as superintendent of the Pattonville School District located in the greater St. Louis area. The Shawnee Mission community is invited to meet Fulton from 9 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10. View Fulton's biography here.

Dr. Blane McCann is currently serving as superintendent of Westside Community Schools located in Omaha, Nebraska. The Shawnee Mission community is invited to meet McCann from 11 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10. View McMann's biography here.

Mr. Michael Muñoz is currently serving as superintendent of Rochester Public Schools located in Rochester, Minnesota. The Shawnee Mission community is invited to meet Muñoz from 1 to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10. View Muñoz's biography here.

All meet-and-greet sessions will be held in the board room at the Center for Academic Achievement located at 8200 W. 71st Street.

After the sessions, the community can leave feedback on the candidates for board members if they choose to.

According to a release from SMSD, the board will interview the finalists for a second time in closed executive sessions.
