KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Because of all the snow and cold weather this year, students in both Kansas and Missouri have missed several days from class, and those missed days will mean some changes in state testing dates.
The U.S. Department of Education gives school districts a set time frame to begin and end their state testing. Each district then chooses a testing date that works best for the year.
The Kansas State Department of Education recently announced that it will extend the deadline for schools to complete the Kansas English Language Proficiency Assessment (KELPA). The deadline was originally March 8 but has now been extended to March 22.
The Kansas Assessment tests for grade level will be March 11 through April 26.
Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education officials said they will maintain the existing state testing dates unless there are several more snow days. Currently, the Missouri Assessment Program test for grade-level performance is scheduled for anytime between April 1 and May 24.
