KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Super Bowl Sunday kicked off with some wintry weather across the Metro, creating slick roads for drivers.
The snow mixed with the cold and strong winds made for some brutal conditions.
Many people didn't let the weather keep them from enjoying their weekend.
"I was surprised there were as many people out as there were,” said Lauren Plants, who headed to brunch with a friend.
Charlie Starr and his wife came in for a visit from out of town. He says they weren't expecting snow so didn't come prepared.
“We're looking forward to visiting around a little bit and then huddling up in our hotel room tonight and watching the Super Bowl,” said Starr.
As people fought the cold, snow plow drivers worked to clear the roads and lay down salt.
Highways covered in snow and ice made for a dicey drive. There were several crashes reported across Kansas City.
"The interstate was a little slow... there was one big accident that we passed but for the most part it was just people going slow and being smart about it,” said Plants.
Many area municipalities said crews were out working to clear roadways Sunday afternoon. Drivers were asked to use caution as plows did their work.
