KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Kansas Department of Transportation said it hopes to reopen the US 69 bridge over the Kansas River by the end of November, but construction crews may continue work under the bridge until mid-December.

KDOT shut down 18th Street Expressway/US 69 in April to prevent future deterioration.

A KDOT spokesperson said during construction work, its contractor discovered the bridge needed a few extra repairs. Those fixes required special ordered and fabricated steel structures.

Crews expect to finish installing those pieces next week. KDOT said those steel structures will make the bridge stronger for years to come.
