KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Parade-goers may have better cell service Wednesday than they had at the 2015 Royals World Series parade, but Sprint says don't count on it.

Sprint on Tuesday told 41 Action News it has “substantially increased our capacity and improved coverage throughout the city” since the Royals parade.

Over the last two weeks, the company has been working to optimize sites along the parade route and rally area.

The work included the installation of temporary portable sites, which will increase Sprint's capacity and give event organizers access to a private network.

Sprint said it wants to provide a good experience for its customers, but “it’s important for wireless customers attending the event to know that all wireless networks can become congested with such an unprecedented massive volume of people in a highly concentrated location.”

Instead of placing calls, Sprint encouraged customers to text using SMS rather than iMessage.

Sprint also advised users to wait until later to share photos and videos.

The Chiefs Kingdom Champions Parade follows a similar route to its 2015 predecessor.

It begins at 11:30 a.m. at East 6th Street and Grand Boulevard in the River Market District.

41 Action News is the parade's exclusive broadcaster. Our live coverage begins at 4:30 a.m.
