KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway has issued a second subpoena to Clay County to turn over documents related to an audit.
The first subpoena was issued on Nov. 8.
According to Galloway's announcement, several requests made by auditors on site in Clay County were denied this week.
The audit taking place in the county was citizen-mandated, meaning Clay County residents got thousands of signatures on a petition to request the audit.
41 Action News reported in September that concern over the county’s financial records and allegations of retaliation triggered the petition.
The audit has been going on since December 2018. Clay County tried to sue to prevent the audit in January 2019, but a judge dismissed the lawsuit in October.
