Student taken into custody for bringing gun to Central Middle School

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City Public Schools said in a statement that a middle school student had a firearm at school on Monday.

Kansas City Public School security officers found the handgun in the student’s possession at Central Middle School and seized it. The student was taken into custody.

School officials said students, staff, and visitors were safe and they are cooperating with KCPD to investigate the incident.

They also said they will be following the discipline procedures lined out in the student handbook.

KCPS also stated that events like this one are rare, but there are policies and procedures at-the-ready to keep everyone safe. The news release said the procedures worked as intended and staff responded appropriately.
