LEAWOOD, Kan. — As Diane Quinn’s husband rushed her out the door Wednesday morning, the math and social studies teacher at Nativity Parish School in Leawood, Kansas, grew angry. She didn’t know why he was in such a rush to get to the hospital for her last chemotherapy session as she battles breast cancer.

But the reason for the hurry became obvious as Mr. Quinn drove Diane through the school parking lot on their way to the hospital. Students and staff lined the driveway holding encouraging signs and chanting, “We believe that Quinn will win.”

The teacher exited her car in tears, hugged her coworkers and homeroom students and thanked the school community for its support.

"This is what Nativity is all about," Principal David Kearney said. "Not only are we a church and a school, we're a Catholic community united to support each other throughout the challenges and celebrations that families feel."
