Posted

Police have three people in custody following a high speed car chase in Kansas City, Mo.

The chase was initiated by ground patrol cars along I-435 near 24th Street. A police helicopter started following the suspect vehicle as it headed westbound on Coal Mine Road toward Blue Parkway.

The suspect stopped at gas station near 45th and Cleveland when police attempted to stop him. The suspect rammed the vehicle into the police cruiser and tried to flee the scene.

An officer fired multiple shots at the vehicle, but suspect kept going. The gas station was full of other customers at the time.

"I mean someone bumped into me. They said somebody was shooting. I turned around and I looked and I saw there was some commotion going on," said witness Adam Monroe.

"This officer today made the best decision based on their perception of this instance. It's a scary situation and a tough situation that this officer was placed in today," said Sgt. Kari Thompson.

The vehicle hit a police spike strip and eventually spun out near St. John and Bennington in KCMO. Police were able to stop the vehicle and arrest the suspects.

Skytracker video shows three suspects exiting the vehicle, one adult man and two adult women.

One suspect was treated for a gunshot wound. Police didn't release information on the extent of the injuries.

At this time, all three suspects are being held for investigation.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
