Get your motor runnin’ and head out on the highway.
That’s exactly what will happen on Saturday, July 16 at 10 a.m. between the Kansas City Police Academy and Worth Harley Davidson.
Dozens of bikers will roll out so an important and special trailer can roll in where it’s needed most.
The Missouri Law Enforcement Funeral Assistance Team was founded in 2008 to assist departments and families upon the death of an officer.
Everything you can think of, as well as many things you may not, is in the trailer. It has flags and range traffic cones. It also has shoe polish, an ironing board, children’s books and stuffed animals.
The goal: Making sure fallen heroes are “laid to rest with the highest level of dignity and honor.”
Les Kerr, of the response team, said it’s a privilege to be part of this mission but it is also expensive.
That’s where Saturday morning’s ride comes in. It is the single biggest fundraiser of the year.
Due to the recent headlines, this year’s trip will have special meaning.
You can help by taking the ride or, if jumping on a bike isn’t your thing, jump on the team's website or Facebook page instead.
A little later in that earlier quoted song, the lyric say: "Gonna make it happen, Take the world in a love embrace."
Saturday morning’s ride is a sure way to do that.
