Teen passenger dies in Clay County crash near Liberty North High School

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 17-year old was killed Monday afternoon when the car he was riding in overturned and struck a tree in Clay County.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on 112th Street about half a mile east of route A before 3 p.m. on Monday near Liberty North High School.

Authorities said the 18-year-old driver lost control and ran off the side of the road. He overcorrected, began skidding and ran off the left side of the road before overturning and striking a tree.

Benjamin Mundy of Liberty, Missouri, was the passenger in the truck.

Mundy was later pronounced dead at Liberty Hospital.

The driver was not listed as injured.
