PLATTE COUNTY, Mo. — A teenage pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Wednesday near Missouri 45 and Grass Pad Road in Platte County.

Before a LifeFlight air ambulance could arrive, the 14-year-old boy from Weston, Missouri, had died from injuries sustained in the crash, which occurred shortly before 7 p.m.

On Thursday, the Platte County Sheriff's Office identified the boy as Gage Fogt.

West Platte School District Superintendent John Rinehart confirmed the teen was a student in the district. Counseling services were offered to students and staff on Thursday.

"Our thoughts go out to the family at this difficult time," Rinehart said.

Emergency crews initially were called to a scene near Missouri 45 and Jones Meyer Road, but later information confirmed the teen was struck farther north near Grass Pad Road.

Platte County Sheriff's Office Major Erik Holland said the boy reportedly got out of a vehicle he was riding in with family and was struck by another vehicle.

“We have some initial indications that there was some sort of an argument (and) he got out of the vehicle, but we are still early in the investigation and so we will be figuring all of that out as we go through," Holland said.

The driver of the vehicle who struck the boy stopped and remained at the scene.

“Obviously, this is an emotional time for both sides involved," Holland said. "Everybody is doing about as well as can be expected and they’re working with the investigators to help us figure everything out.”

Missouri 45 is closed in both directions as law enforcement investigates the scene.

Holland said there is no reason to believe impairment was a factor at this time, but it's too early to tell if speed or road conditions after a snowy afternoon were a factor.

This story has been corrected to note that the crash happened in Platte County, not Parkville.
