KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The 15 and the Mahomies Foundation held its first foundation event Thursday.
People gathered at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown Muehlebach Tower Imperial Ballroom to show support.
The foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of children. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes established it earlier this year.
At the event, he spoke about the impact he is seeing.
"There was a picture of a little playground that we had donated toward to help build," Mahomes said, "Just to see the kids playing with it and the kids being able to go out there and have fun, it just shows that with work and the platform I have I can kind of go out there and support the community that has given back so much to me."
The foundation works toward initiatives in health, wellness, physical and mental disabilities, under-served communities and other charitable causes.
"It's been amazing," Mahomes said. "We have been able to, just in a short amount of time, impact the Kansas City community, and the Lubbock community, and hopefully soon we can get into the Tyler community where I'm from, and said this gala is kind of a stepping stone of the first one, we're able to kind of be here and see the support we already have in this Kansas City community."
