A family who's daughter was shot and killed at a Kansas City water park says justice was not served.
A Kansas City judge sentenced the third defendant in Alexis Kane's murder. The 14-year-old's body was found behind The Bay Water Park in January of 2015. Three men have been convicted in her murder.
Ce-Antonyo Kennedy will serve 15 years in prison, for second-degree murder and armed criminal action.
Ashley Newson is the founder of Justice for Angels and a friend of the Kane family. She doesn't want Kane to be forgotten or for her memory to mar summer fun at The Bay.
"I think no one in this situation ever feels like justice is completely served," said Newson.
Meanwhile, the Kansas City Parks Department started working last month to ensure both of their water parks are safe. The city utilizes security guards and off-duty officers to patrol parks and water parks.
Doug Schroeder says safety is a priority for patrons and swimmers.
"We're fully staffed with plenty of lifeguards and staff maintenance that the parks department takes care of," said Schroeder.
During Wednesday's sentencing, Kennedy received the longest sentence of the three convicted in the 2015 murder. Issac Carter received 10 years and Dominic McDaniel received 5 years.
