The World’s Largest Dinosaurs exhibit is making its way to the Museum at Prairiefire in Overland Park.
The exhibit doesn’t open until February 11, but 41 Action News was able to get a sneak peak inside on Thursday.
Crews were putting the finishing touches to a life size model of a Mamenchisaurus. The unique exhibit brings in actual fossils.
Hands on activities will allow participants to find their fossils as well.
Exhibition curator and also chair of the American Museum of Natural History’s Division of Paleontology, Dr. Mark Norell says this exhibit will give visitors a closer look at how these dinosaurs lived centuries ago.
“It's a very different kind of dinosaur exhibit because usually when people talk about dinosaurs, they walk in, the see skeletons all around,” Dr. Norell said. “There isn't a single mounted skeleton in this entire exhibit and this is an exhibit about the biology of animals and especially the biology of larger animals that are much larger than what are around today.”
Norell says this exhibit will allow visitors to explore their imagination.
“Since there's nothing like them that's alive today, it's just something that allows your imagination to immediately work out on just a little bit,” he said.
The exhibit will open its doors Saturday, February 11 at 10 a.m. and will be open daily through September 4.
Hours will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Tickets to the exhibition are available through museumatpf.org or at the Museum at Prairiefire, located at 5801 W. 135th Street in Overland Park, Kansas.
Admission to the exhibition is $14 for adults (13+) and $8 for children (ages three to 12).
