The tigers are ready to pounce! The Tomahawk Tigers, that is!
And, they are pouncing on a great school year filled with something new around every corner of the building. Tomahawk Elementary, K-6th, is in the Shawnee Mission School District and opens for business today, Friday, August 12. (Well, first through sixth…the kindergarteners get a few more days of summer.)
Principal, Brian Watson says the excitement that greets each school year is multiplied several times over for 2016. For example, instead of a rather over-used carpet on the gymnasium floor, the little tennis shoes of the 300-plus students will find a new, beautiful surface.
At Meet and Greet the other night, kids and parents were eager to hit the hardwood! Then, just down the hall, Director of Food Service, Nancy Coughenour, showed off the new kitchen.
In the past, food was prepared elsewhere and delivered to the school. Now, thanks to expansion, food will be prepared on site. That means the aromas of fresh, delicious, nutritious breakfasts and lunches will be part of the learning experience.
It was a summer-long project, just wrapping up last week, to get the building ready for the school year. Meanwhile, teachers have been busy getting their rooms set up for another year of educational adventure.
For these Tomahawk Tigers, 2016-17 promises to be a roaring good time!
