Travelers at KCI busy rebooking Delta flights

Posted

Travelers at the Kansas City International Airport are busy rebooking flights after a power outage knocked Delta Air Lines' computers offline, an incident that grounded planes worldwide on Monday.

Cancelations have spilled into Tuesday morning itineraries with at least three Delta flights out of KCI being canceled. Those flights were to Detroit and Atlanta.

Stephen Hall was supposed to be on the 7 a.m. flight to Atlanta and showed up to the terminal to rebook with the Atlanta-based airline.

“We got an email saying it's canceled, and we're pretty much stuck here,” said Hall, who needs to be in Destin by Tuesday night for a wedding rehearsal dinner. “We're all kind of waiting around seeing what they're going to do."

According to Hall, the email said he was rebooked for 10:30 a.m., but when he clicks the link it says the flight does not exist.

“We haven't talked to anybody except the representative that told us if we need to rebook, use the app,” said Hall. “The app's obviously not working.”

Delta has released several statements. One of those said minors traveling alone will not be able to fly by themselves until after Wednesday.

Another said any flights canceled or delayed from August 8 or 9 can be rebooked without fees or charges as long as they are booked by August 12.

Hall said one of the ways to do that is through the Delta hotline, but that had a three to five hour wait on Tuesday morning.

Another way to rebook is to go to the “My Trips” section on Delta’s website.

Flights may be be changed after August 12, however, you might be charged if the flight you select is more expensive than the original one purchased.

Thousands of people are expected to rebook their flights.

Hall said he is not optimistic he will make it to the rehearsal dinner.

“My hopes are not real high,” said Hall.
