Memorial Day weekend is one of the busiest travel weekends of the year.

The same is true for Kansas City International Airport.

Passengers lined up at the airport on Sunday afternoon at the check-in counters.

The Memorial Day holiday travel period is May 26-30.

AAA reports that Memorial Day air travel is expected to increase almost two percent this year.

Which will also increase TSA security checkpoint wait times.

Another reason many passengers, like Pat Milligan, choose to travel Sunday and be at home on Memorial Day.

"We wanted one day of holiday at home so yes, and we thought today would be easier, " he said.

The TSA recommends passengers arrive two hours early for most domestic flights and three hours for international travel.
