It’s the last day you can drop your recycling off at Independence’s two city recycling centers – but there are still other options on the market.
The city made the decision to permanently close the centers at 875 Vista Avenue and the 35th Street Recycling Center at 13600 east 35th Street on Friday, March 31.
Part of the reason is recycling was blowing into nearby areas and the city was taking complaints on clutter.
The centers are on city property but are operated by Midwest Recycling Centers.
Mayor Eileen Weir said all eight of the trash companies that service the area offer a recycling service, some for a small fee.
Residents are encouraged to keep recycling and contact their trash hauler for the best option.
