KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Two people were killed and a third person suffered critical injuries in a wrong-way crash on 71 highway early Saturday morning.

Police were called to 71 Highway and I-435 just after 2:15 Saturday morning.

Officers say a Chevy was southbound on 71 Hwy. in the northbound lanes when it struck a Jeep.

Two people in the Jeep were killed in the crash. Police later identified the victims as Ryan C. Humphrey, 31, and Laura E. Humphrey, 29, both of Kansas City.

The driver of the other vehicle remains in critical condition at an area hospital.

While police were working that scene, two other separate crashes occurred in the area. Victims from both of those crashes suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The roadway was re-opened just before 5 a.m. Saturday.
