KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two men were shot and killed outside a vacant business near the Power and Light District early Sunday morning.
Around 2:15 a.m., officers working around the Power and Light District heard gunfire just north in the 1200 block of Walnut Street..
Officers ran to the scene and found two adult males shot in front of a vacant business at 1217 Walnut.
EMS declared one man dead at the scene, the second victim was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police identified men killed in the shooting as Leovardo Moreno Jr., 22, and Austin Quijas, 29.
Witnesses say there was a group of people walking north on Walnut when a vehicle pulled alongside, and someone in the vehicle fired shots.
Police said a motive is not yet known, but initial investigation indicates the shooting is not believed to be random.
Police say there were numerous people in the area, and anyone with any information is encouraged to call police.
