Two teens were killed, seven other people injured in an early morning crash at 80th and Maurer in Lenexa.

According to a KCK schools spokesman, Isaiah Stroble and Angelito Espinoza, students at Argentine Middle and Bridges Academy, respectively, were killed in the crash.

The schools spokesman said counselors will be on hand at both at schools on Monday.

Police say an officer tried to stop a Mitsubishi passenger car with its lights off about 4:30 a.m.

The vehicle sped off and the officer did not pursue the vehicle. A short time later came upon the vehicle crashed into a tree.

Two teens were killed in the crash -- a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old, one of which was the driver.  Seven others were injured and taken to a hospital. It's not yet known if all the occupants were teens.

Officers say the vehicle was over-occupied.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash and if speed or alcohol played a factor.

Editor's note: A previous version of this story said the officer "disregarded the chase" when the vehicle sped off. Lenexa police say the officer never pursued the vehicle and turned off emergency equipment when the car sped off. The story has been updated.
