KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 4-year-old child suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash early Friday morning on Interstate 435 and Winner Road in Kansas City, Missouri.
Around 2:30 a.m., emergency crews were called to the highway on a reported two-vehicle crash involving an SUV and a pick-up truck in the northbound lanes of I-435.
Police believe the crash caused the SUV to run off the highway and down an embankment. The driver and sole occupant of the SUV was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The pickup truck flipped over and in the process, ejected an unrestrained 4-year-old child. The child was also taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Three other adults in the pickup suffered minor injuries.
The interstate was closed through 6 a.m. while police investigated the crash.
