CHILLICOTHE, Mo. — Two vehicles crashed on bridge Friday evening in Chillicothe, Missouri, and one wound up plummeting nearly 25 feet onto railroad tracks below.
Officers were called just after 4 p.m. to the Canadian Pacific bridge on Ryan Lane west of Mitchell Road, where police said the vehicles collided near the crest of the bridge.
The westbound vehicle overcorrected and went off the north side of the bridge, landing on the railroad tracks underneath.
The driver suffered serious injuries and was transported by LifeFlight to an area hospital.
The eastbound vehicle hit the bridge railing and ended up in a field. That driver only suffered minor injuries and was released at the scene.
The bridge suffered significant damage and has been deemed unsafe. It has been closed to motorists.
