Union Station expansion project now underway

and last updated

Twenty truckloads of cement will be poured at Union Station to kick off a $7.5 million project.

The project will expand Science City and build a bridge that allows people to enter the parking garage directly from Pershing Road. People can drive up to the front of Union Station, whereas before they had to drive to the back.

It will also install a large pavilion area directly in front of Union Station, and a large outdoor space for concerts and events.

The project is the biggest expansion to the building since its 1999 renovation.

The expansion is scheduled to be done in 2017, but the majority will wrap up by the end of the summer.  All activities will go on as usual.

Burns & McDonnell are in charge of the project's engineering, architecture, and construction.
