KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two of the Kansas City area’s largest nonprofits are merging this summer.
The boards for the United Way of Greater Kansas City and the United Way of Wyandotte County announced Monday that the two organizations will merge effective July 1.
The new combined nonprofit will continue to serve the entire Kansas City metro and surrounding counties.
“The Boards of the two organizations believe that by adding Wyandotte County to the footprint presently covered by United Way of Greater Kansas City, the combined organization will better unify and serve the region,” the United Way said in a statement announcing the merger.
The two organizations annually raise nearly $30 million to provide services to those in need in metro communities.
United Way of Greater Kansas City CEO Brent Stewart will oversee the combined nonprofit, which will keep the United Way of Greater Kansas City name.
United Way of Wyandotte County CEO Todd Jordan will remain with the new organization as its Chief Community Engagement Officer.
