USS Kansas City released into Mobile River

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The USS Kansas City took one step closer this week to joining the active fleet of the U.S. Navy.

The ship, identified as LCS 22, launched from an Austal assembly bay in Mobile, Alabama into the Mobile River. From there, it was into a dry dock and finally moored in front of the bay.

A YouTube video shows the ship leaving the assembly bay on a foggy, overcast morning.

An Austal spokeswoman says the ship will now undergo sea trials before being delivered to the Navy.
