KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Veterans Community Project is gearing up for phase three of construction, but they have some concerns about the winter weather.
Chris Stout, founder of the Veterans Community Project, said, "Our next phase is another 20, 23 houses and a community center. A 5,000 square foot community center. It's a big, big undertaking. Real answer, we may push it back a couple weeks. What I would like to do is just get some heaters out there, get it melted, get to work, right?"
All the snow and ice is also taking a toll on some of the support services too. "It's slowing our traffic in the building. I think it's making it very difficult for our vets to get here," Stout shared.
reStart CEO Stephanie Boyer told 41 Action News, the weather is impacting the department that refers veterans to the VCP too.
"Some of those numbers with the weather have actually been down with, folks just aren't coming in as much," Boyer said.
The VCP has had late starts a handful of times, they've had to close their doors as well. As they get ready to resume construction though, they hope the winter weather moves out for good. Stout said, "We're very. very worried that it's going to impact us."
