KANSAS CITY, Mo. – WaterOne crews said they are working to stop a large, 20-inch water main break Monday morning.

A WaterOne spokeswoman said crews learned of the break near 119th Street and Roe Boulevard just after 11 a.m.

Leawood Police closed both directions of 119th Street between Roe and Nall due to the break. All lanes of 119th Street were reopened at around 6 p.m. except for one westbound lane, which will remain closed for two days for repairs.

Viewer video provided to 41 Action News shows a wall of water bubbling up from the ground in a parking lot.

The break has caused low water pressure for customers in the area.

The spokeswoman said it might take at least six to eight hours to assess the repairs.

Water One said the break was caused by ground shifting, which happens this time of year. They describe it as a movement in the concrete or pavement because of changing or rising temperatures, condensation and precipitation.

Some of the water rushed into the back store room of Pottery Barn, but the business remained open. Other restaurants did not have that luxury.

Houlihan's and On the Border dealt with water pressure issues for about an hour and we're closed during part of Monday's lunch traffic.

Brenda Wray of Ottawa came up to the Leawood Apple store to take her daughter school shopping for college.

"Chicken Parmesan and edamame," is what Wray said she wanted to order. "They told us we can come back in 15 minutes."

Town Center and Water One were unable to provide a number of businesses that were affected by low water pressure.
