“It’s sort of a miracle of nature unfolding before your eyes.”

Two families of Peregrine falcons in the Kansas City area can be watched on live stream cameras.

One camera is on a nest box located on Kansas City Power and Light Company’s Iatan power plant smoke stack. The other sits on the American Century building in the Plaza.

Bill Graham with the Missouri Department of Conservation said the cameras have been in place for a couple of years so people can enjoy wildlife from anywhere with internet connection.

“This is pretty amazing, these birds live at these real high places. The Peregrine falcon originally nested on cliffs and so they’ve sought out these nest boxes that we’ve put up,” said Graham. “To watch these birds lay the eggs and feed their young and so forth is just an amazing process and we hope people enjoy it.”

By watching the feed, viewers can witness the development of the baby falcons, also called eyasses, as the mother and father take turns hunting, feeding and protecting the nest.

The eggs of both families hatched on April 28. Graham believes the birds will take their first flight sometime in June.
