An estimated 500 volunteers gathered at Lakeside Nature Center to clean up the Blue River nature area Saturday morning.
Coordinator Vicki Richmond says the weather cut the number of volunteers about in half, so the normal 25 cleanup sites were reduced to eight.
41 Action News was among the many groups and organizations that volunteered at the annual event.
Before eleven Saturday morning Richmond says volunteers had collected 400 tires, a wicker table, four toilets, cutouts from a residential santa display, and more than 1,000 trash bags with various litter.
She added that the Indian Creek floods last year greatly impacted trash in the floodplain, causing the most trash in dozens of years.
