KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Great Plains SPCA is one of several animal rescue agencies taking part in a national pet adoption event.

From Monday through Sunday, Great Plains SPCA is offering 50% off adoption fees at its Merriam location. The discount does not apply to kittens, puppies or high-profile breeds, according to a news release.

The adoption event, according to Tam Singer, Great Plains SPCA CEO, is part of the Tour for Life adoption event, which will run throughout March and April.

Singer said it has been amazing to see how many people adopted animals during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“2020 was the winning year for shelter pets,” Singer said. “Cat and dog adoptions went through the roof.”

She also said with the weather starting to get warm, now is a great time to adopt.

“Having a lovely animal companion in your life is the perfect way to go,” Singer said. “And obviously adoption is the best way to find your new family member.”

Those interested in donating to Great Plains SPCA can do so on the organization’s website.

Great Plains SPCA is operating by appointment only. Those interested in adopting should call (913) 831-7722 or email adoptions@greatplainsspca.org.
