LAWRENCE, Kan. — Velocity Church in Lawrence is helping those that need it most right now.

They are calling it Serve785, a new program that aims to help anyone during this pandemic.

"We are bringing hope through good works," Rachel Hartford with Serve785 said. "There doesn't have to be a lot of strings attached to generosity. There are no strings attached to just doing the right thing."

But, that's not all.

"We are hoping to sponsor over the next several weeks, so that students and families, while we are all virtual right now, have access to affordable internet," Hartford said.

Hartford said it was an easy decision to put others first during the pandemic.

"It's built on a belief that when you make a decision to serve others you are acknowledging that you are part of something bigger than yourself," she said. "You can't stay stressed when you are serving... It moves you beyond your situation and beyond your circumstance."

The group wants to keep spredding the message that help is always around the corner.

"I don't think people get their hopes up enough, and I think we have a message that it would encourage someone, 'Hey, it's OK get your hopes up,'" Hartford said. "There are creative and innovative ways to make a difference."
