KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Students in the Hickman Mills school district can now connect with their teachers and classmates, thanks to a special donation from Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, foundation "15 and the Mahomies."

According to a school district spokeswoman, the foundation contacted them shortly after school buildings closed for the rest of the year. The foundation gave them money to go toward a purchase to help students during this closure.

The district decided to use the money to buy wi-fi hotspot connections for families who don't have internet connection. The district says the hotspots are critical for many of their students to be able to participate in virtual learning. The "15 and Mahomies" foundation wants to keep the total donation amount a secret, but the district says they have not said "no" to any family who needs one.

“We are very grateful to 15 and the Mahomies for their donation," district spokesperson Marissa Cleaver Wamble said. "It really makes a difference for our scholars to connect with their teachers and their classmates during this difficult time.”

The district posted a Facebook post alerting parents about the opportunity to get a hotspot connector. Wamble told 41Action News, if families need one, they can still ask.
