KANSAS CITY, Mo. — After claiming victory in the first “I-70 BBQ Bet,” Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que is taking its generosity a step further.
The bet was wagered on the winner of the Kansas City Chiefs-Denver Broncos matchup in week 13 of the NFL season.
Joe’s KC pledged to donate 100 meals for kids at Operation Breakthrough, a local nonprofit that helps children in need, many of whom have experienced homeless or trauma.
A spokesperson for the barbecue joint said after conversations with leaders at Operation Breakthrough, they saw a need for more than 100 meals.
Joe’s KC instead handed out more than 150 hot meals Friday afternoon, which they said was enough to feed the children and their families.
"To be able to provide a full meal for families during the holidays is something we are truly grateful to be associated with," said Eric Tadda, Joe’s KC director of marketing.
The meals consisted of pulled pork, baked beans, potato salad, rolls and chocolate lave cake.
A barbecue counterpart in Denver made a similar donation to a nonprofit there.
