INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Families in need of fresh produce and meat received a free box of fruit, vegetables, dairy and 10 pounds of frozen precooked chicken Thursday from the Fort Osage School District Education Foundation and the Fort Osage Food Service Department through the USDA’s Food to Families Program and local vendors.
"It's wonderful to know that we're doing just a little something to help everybody who might need or want some fresh produce or dairy on their tables,” Fort Osage School District Director of Public Relations Stephanie Smith said.
The event took place at Osage Trail Middle School in Independence and the district plans to continue similar food giveaways on Thursdays for the next month.
