KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Some Johnson County residents received care packages on Monday, while others were encouraged to purchase gift cards to help those in need, heading into the Thanksgiving holiday.

Olathe Hy-Vee employees, in partnership with the county’s Department of Aging and Human Services, delivered 670 packages of groceries to older adults who reside in subsidized senior living facilities.

In Roeland Park, a gift-card drive is being held to assist area families. Neighbors for a Better Roeland Park and the city’s police department have asked residents to purchase gift cards in the amount of $10 to $20 from local businesses, gas stations and grocery stores.

The cards can be dropped off at City Hall with a cashier.

Officers will distribute the gift cards.
