KANSAS CITY, Mo. — People struggling financially because of the COVID-19 crisis in the Kansas City metro are finding new help and hope from strangers and neighbors.
Caring volunteers are giving their time, talent and treasures to make sure people have enough food and face masks.
In Overland Park, Tatiana Wetmore has been busy in her sewing room. She is a master design seamstress who has made 500 masks donated to home health care workers and firefighters. Shawnee Mission Church of the Nazarene donated the fabric.
At the Jewish Family Services Food Pantry, volunteers are working long hours providing groceries for 500 families. The smiles on volunteers' faces prove they love helping people. The need is great, and they are preparing to help an additional 400 families.
Taste of Africa restaurant in Overland Park is partnering with Country Financial to donate 100 free meals to first responders and health care workers.
Owner Doreen Muhoro thanked Maria Tutu at Country Financial for helping her restaurant during this challenging time.
