KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Nurture KC is using all #GivingTuesdayNow donations to help buy groceries for families impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

With unemployment skyrocketing in Kansas and Missouri, the Kansas City, Missouri-based nonprofit has seen the need for people it serves skyrocket as well.

Nurture KC — which is located at 1111 W. 39th St., Suite 100, in KCMO — has joined a global social media campaign, #GivingTuesdayNow, on Facebook and Twitter to help raise money to benefit families in need.

“Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, we still have been providing services for our Healthy Start families, including diaper distribution, some groceries and connecting them with the community resources they need now more than ever. But, it’s still not enough,” Nurture KC Executive Director Tracy Russell said in a statement. “Our families have been hit disproportionately hard. It’s devastating! We need our Kansas City community to rally around us to help fill this basic, immediate need — food for our parents (many are single mothers) and their children.”

#GivingTuesdayNow is an effort online to help create more grassroots support in communities across the world for organizations trying to bridge the gap many families face meeting basic needs due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Nurture KC is focused on food insecurity right now with all donations in May going toward groceries, but the organization also provides community planning, education and advocacy services for children, particularly around child safety and immunizations.

Truman Medical Center’s mobile market has donated fresh fruit and vegetables to the cause, which allow families in need to drive-thru for distribution of diapers and groceries.
