KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Many organizations across the Kansas City metro have stepped up to help others during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Tuesday, two organizations partnered to make sure children don’t go hungry.

“With schools being closed and with very limited meal services, it’s very important for us as an organization to step in and fill that gap,” Dred Scott, president and CEO of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City, said.

Since March, the Boys and Girls Clubs have been serving meals to children and families who can’t find food anywhere else.

Those meals cost money — which is why the Live Like Luke Foundation stepped in to sponsor the meals on Tuesday.

“Our slogan at Live Like Luke is, ‘every child needs a smile,’” Live Like Luke President Ryan Bresette said. “During these times of uncertainty and a lot of anxiety, it’s good to be able to provide a hot, nutritious meal to these children and families during this time.”

Around 700 meals were served on Tuesday. It’s estimated that the Boys and Girls Clubs have served more than 12,000 meals in all.
