KANSAS CITY, Mo. — CarMax has more than one hundred job opportunities around Kansas City, and some of them come with a sign-on bonus.
The majority of the local job opportunities are for a position as a Customer Experience Consultant at the Customer Experience Center in Olathe, which includes a $500 sign-on bonus and a $2,000 sign-on bonus for bilingual associates who speak Spanish. Newly hired employees would get that sign-on bonus after 90 days.
Scott Hershman, the regional vice president and general manager at the center, said the base pay for that position is $15.00 per hour and with incentives, the average pay per hour is $22.50 with the opportunity to earn as much as $30.00 per hour.
"Look at it as a career at CarMax, not just another job," Hershman said. "It's very clean. It's open. We have fun contests. We really try to just have a great day at work every single day."
The company has won awards for its atmosphere.

You don't need a college degree to be a Customer Experience Consultant, but Hershman said a passion for helping people is key.
CarMax is also hiring auto technicians and sales consultants at the company's Independence, Missouri, and Merriam, Kansas, locations.
If you've never imagined a career in the used car industry, Hershman said neither had he before he started at CarMax more than 15 years ago.
"I started off as a part-time sales consultant," he said. "I will tell you, the second I started with CarMax, it felt different. It was different and I absolutely fell in love with it and I knew from that day forward I didn't want to go anywhere else."
