KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City woman is charged with murder for allegedly stabbing a man to death after he didn't pay her for sex in September 2016.
Amber Cunningham, 32, is charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.
According to court documents, the victim was found dead from numerous stab wounds in his home on the 2500 block of Poplar Avenue in Kansas City.
Investigators found Cunningham's fingerprints inside the victim's vehicle and home.
When she was questioned by police, she initially denied knowing the victim but later said he picked her up before the homicide. Cunningham also said the victim picked up two of his friends and then dropped them off in Kansas before heading back home. According to court documents, that matches the story one of the victim's friends told investigators.
Cunningham told police that she agreed to go back to the victim's house and he would pay her $50 for sex. But she said the victim didn't pay her when he said he would and kept making excuses.
She claims the victim refused to let her leave and a fight broke out. She told police she took a knife from the victim during the fight and stabbed him around 10 times. Cunningham said the victim was still talking when she left.
Cunningham also said her hands were injured during the fight and she had to undergo surgery. Court documents say her hands did have scarring but they were inconsistent with the wounds she described.
A medical examiner's report said the victim had at least 60 incised or stab wounds, some of which could have been defensive.
Prosecutors have requested a $250,000 bond.
