KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A woman died after being hit by a vehicle on Interstate 435 near Cookingham Drive on Monday night.
According to the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department, the incident happened at around 8:15 p.m.
Police say their investigation determined that a motorist was eastbound on I-435 in a Chevy sedan when her vehicle apparently become inoperable.
According to police, the vehicle stopped in the outside traffic lane and the woman got out of the car. She was standing in the center lane of traffic next to her vehicle when an eastbound Ford pickup struck her.
Police say the Ford driver stopped at the scene.
The pedestrian was identified as a 54-year-old woman.
Police say she died at the scene.
Cookingham Drive was closed in both directions for about two hours while authorities investigated the incident.
