KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City woman is accused of fatally shooting another woman Tuesday afternoon near a park at 11th Street and Prospect Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri, according to prosecutors.

Sabria Nixon, 29, was charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Kansas City police said officers were patrolling the area around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday when they were flagged down and told a person was shot in Prospect Plaza Park.

The officers located a woman, later identified as 33-year-old Destiny D. Brooks, with multiple gunshot wounds. She later died at the hospital.

According to court records, witnesses told police that two women, including Nixon, ran from the park after the shooting. Another witness said he saw Nixon reach into her purse, pull out a handgun and begin shooting.

Nixon told detectives that she had a physical altercation with the victim and that Brooks pulled her hair. She allegedly said that she fired a handgun she had in her purse and that she was mad when she began firing.

Officers found three shell casings near a playground within the park. Another witness went to the park after police arrived and provided two more shell casings, which were reportedly removed from the park before officers went to the scene, according to records.

Prosecutors requested a bond of $300,000 for Nixon.
