KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A woman fishing from the banks with her husband Saturday at Smithville Lake suffered burns after a lightning strike.
According to the Smithville Area Fire Protection District, the woman was injured shortly before 2 p.m. along Collins Road near the horseback trails on the east side of the lack.
It wasn’t immediately clear what the lightning struck, but a spokesman with Smithville Fire said the woman was not directly struck.
She was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her burns.
Smithville Fire reminds people "when thunder roars, get indoors" to avoid injury from a possible lightning strike.
