KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An Emporia, Kansas, woman was cited early Thursday after becoming stuck in floodwaters after she drove around a flood barrier.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s office said Apryl Salendar, 19, drove around a barrier that had been erected due to high water and, once she did, her car was swept off the roadway.

Salendar called 911 for help just after 3 a.m., saying her car was stuck and she was on the roof.

Rescue crews brought Salendar back to safety about an hour later. After being checked out at a local hospital, she was cited for driving around the barricade.
